Hot Water Cylinders

Unvented cylinders

Unvented hot water cylinders store vast amounts of hot water which they supply on demand throughout your property. They offer higher flow rates as they are connected directly to the mains water supply. They come in various sizes and shapes making them suitable for most properties. With the Unvented cylinder it is fed directly from the mains, the water is either heated directly through immersion heaters or indirectly from a
boiler or solar panels.

An expansion vessel is required as it is a sealed system, this allows for the heated water to expand and handle the increase in pressure. Call us on 0208 058 5820 to book a free survey and get a quote for an unvented cylinder installation

Vented cylinders

These types of cylinders are gravity fed and rely on a cold water tank to be located above the vented cylinder, usually in the loft space. Also known as open vented cylinders the pressure in these types of systems is generated by gravity. Vented cylinders do not benefit from a direct connection with the mains water so they usually have lower pressure at the water outlets.

In the past these cylinders were the most common but these are more frequently being changed for unvented cylinders. These are still popular due to them being a cheaper option to other types of cylinders. Thermal Store Cylinders

These are open vented cylinders that use mains water. Unlike the unvented cylinder these do not require discharge pipework or an expansion vessel.

They also do not require a cold water tank in the loft due to the connection to the mains water.

They are a perfect solution when it’s not possible to install discharge pipework and you want to benefit from mains water.

The downside for the thermal storage cylinders is the price, they are generally more expensive to get installed.
